soliders! reminds me to mention, ya’ll should try and watch restrepo, “a feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley. The movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, ‘restrepo,’ named after a platoon medic who was killed in action. It was considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military.” probably wasn’t the best idea for a date movie but important nonetheless.  simply fascinating to hear why (most of) these men decided to go to war (adrenaline junkies) and how they spoke and negotiated with “the locals”. update: my original post was prior to learning of this devasting news. click over to read the article regarding restrepo director tim hetherington’s death.  image: darklamb
